With a 1080p camera on a 1/2.8" sensor and a 4.0 mm lens, OODPCVS Characterise (250 px/m, ≈ DORI Identify) is reachable up to 5.7 m. Beyond that you drop to Perceive — read posture but cannot reliably identify the person.

    What is OODPCVS?

OODPCVS is the seven-step pixel-density ladder introduced by IEC 62676-4:2025. It sits alongside the legacy DORI four-step ladder (Detection, Observation, Recognition, Identification) and gives procurement teams finer-grained coverage targets — including levels above DORI Identify for facial verification and passport-grade biometrics.

    • Overview (20 px/m) — situational awareness, motion-only triggers.
    • Outline (40 px/m) — distinguish coarse object shapes.
    • Discern (80 px/m) — tell object categories apart (person vs. trolley).
    • Perceive (125 px/m) — read posture, gesture, behaviour. Equivalent to DORI Recognize.
    • Characterise (250 px/m) — identify a known person. Equivalent to DORI Identify.
    • Validate (500 px/m) — face or licence-plate verification suitable for evidentiary use.
    • Scrutinise (1500 px/m) — passport-grade biometric capture.

The underlying math is identical to DORI — pixels per metre on the target — but the new ladder lets you specify coverage in three to seven discrete bands instead of the legacy four. Tenders citing IEC 62676-4:2025 increasingly require OODPCVS levels in addition to (or instead of) DORI.
